About St. Michael

Saint Michael the Archangel isn’t a saint, but rather he is an angel, and the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is what the title “Archangel” means, that he is above all the others in rank.

Saint Michael is a champion of good, leader of God’s army, and the Prince of the Angels.

One of St. Michael’s jobs is to help people make good, Godly choices in all circumstances. He will help you when you have to make a hard decision or when you are tempted to do wrong.

St. Michael is a protector and defender of the Church. When you are in danger – physically, emotionally, or spiritually – he will come to your side.

St. Michael can help give you courage when you are fearful. Just ask him for help!

Our Parish Priest

Our Parish Priest is Fr. Marc Lyden-Smith. Fr. Marc supports our school in many different ways and is often in school working with our wonderful children.

Parish of St. Michael’s, Houghton le Spring

We are so fortunate at St. Michaels Catholic Primary school to have our Parish church just a short walk down the road. We regularly visit church for Mass, to enhance our classroom learning and for sacramental preparation.

Church Partnership

A partnership is a group of parishes agreeing to work together to share resources, both human and material, to become stronger and better equipped for furthering the Kingdom of God. They offer our Diocese unlimited potential as we seek to ensure viable and flourishing communities of people who want to deepen their commitment to Jesus and witness to him in our world.

St Michael’s is now part of the Partnership of St Mary the Virgin, joining parishes in Seaham, Murton, Thornley, Peterlee, Horden and Hutton House, Blackhall.
