Jubilee Year: Pilgrims of Hope 2025
In the Catholic Church, a Jubilee or Holy Year is a special year of forgiveness and
reconciliation, in which people are invited to come back into right relationship with
God, with one another, and with all of creation.
A Jubilee Year is celebrated by the Church every 25 years. This has been the case since
1470, when Pope Paul II changed it from every 50 years. A Pope can also proclaim an
Extraordinary Jubilee, like the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy which Pope Francis
inaugurated in 2015.
The 2025 Jubilee Year begins on Christmas Eve 2024 and concludes on 6 January 2026.
The theme is Pilgrims of Hope. Pope Francis has invited Catholics to renew our
hope and discover a vision that can “restore access to the fruits of the earth to
everyone”. We are also invited to rediscover a spirituality of God’s creation in
which we understand ourselves as “pilgrims on the earth” rather than masters of
the world.
Letter about the Jubilee Year: Pilgrims of Hope from Pope Francis
God, our loving Father,
in this Jubilee Year,
you remind us of our call to love creation.
Help us to work together
to replant, repair, and renew.
Guide us on our journey
as pilgrims of hope.
Jesus, our light,
In this Jubilee Year,
you remind us of our call to love
our neighbours
and to set free those who suffer.
Help us to treat everyone with dignity;
to be fair, forgiving and kind.
Guide us on our journey
as pilgrims of hope.
Holy Spirit, our inspiration,
in this Jubilee Year, you remind us of our
call to grow in faith and love.
Help us to hear you in scripture, to see
Jesus in others,
and to be united as God’s global family.
Guide us on our journey
as pilgrims of hope. Amen.

Year 5 had a lovely trip looking at signs of erosion as part of their Geography topic. They started the day @nationaltrust Souter Lighthouse learning all about the lighthouse and looking out from the very top. They then went to Seaham beach to find signs of erosion on the beach!
